Trey Hendrickson was "looking forward" to playing with Maxx Crosby
The Baltimore Ravens moved quickly to bolster their pass rush after their blockbuster trade for Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby collapsed at the eleventh hour. Less than 24 hours after that deal fell through, the Ravens agreed to terms with veteran edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, who now joins a defensive front that nearly looked very different. In his first comments since the signing, Hendrickson revealed that he had been closely following the Crosby saga and was excited about the prospect of teaming up with the elite pass rusher.
"I was looking forward to playing with Maxx Crosby," Hendrickson said during his introductory press conference. "When I heard the trade was close to happening, I thought about what that defense could look like with both of us coming off the edge. That was something that definitely caught my attention and played a role in my decision to come to Baltimore." Hendrickson made it clear that the possibility of lining up alongside Crosby was a major draw, even though the pairing ultimately never materialized.
Despite the failed Crosby trade, Hendrickson expressed confidence that the Ravens' defense will still be formidable. The former Cincinnati Bengals standout has been one of the most productive pass rushers in the NFL in recent seasons, recording double-digit sacks in multiple campaigns. Baltimore's front office views Hendrickson as a game-changing addition who can anchor the defensive line and create consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks, regardless of whether Crosby ends up joining the roster down the line.
The Ravens' aggressive approach during this period signals a franchise determined to compete for a Super Bowl in the near term. While the Crosby deal falling apart was undoubtedly a disappointment for the organization and its fans, the swift pivot to Hendrickson demonstrates that general manager Eric DeCosta had contingency plans in place. For Hendrickson, the opportunity to play for a perennial contender was enough to seal the deal, even without Crosby by his side — at least for now.
