Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Pro Patch Delivers Three New Modes and Major Ray Tracing Boost

Three new modes, backed by the new PSSR.

Cyberpunk 2077 has received a dedicated PS5 Pro patch, and CD Projekt Red is making full use of Sony's upgraded hardware. The update introduces three new graphical modes, each designed to push the boundaries of what Night City can look like on a home console.

The headline addition is support for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, or PSSR, Sony's proprietary AI-driven upscaling technology. Similar in concept to DLSS on PC, PSSR allows the game to render at a lower internal resolution and reconstruct a sharper, higher-quality image — a technique that proves especially impactful at the demanding settings the PS5 Pro targets.

The three new modes give players meaningful choices depending on their priorities. A Performance mode targets a smooth 60 frames per second with enhanced visuals, a Quality mode cranks up ray tracing fidelity closer to the PC Ultra settings, and a third mode attempts to blend both disciplines, offering ray tracing alongside a higher frame rate than the Quality option allows.

Ray tracing in particular sees a significant upgrade. The patch brings console players closer to the PC's Path Tracing experience, with more accurate global illumination, reflections, and shadow rendering throughout Night City's sprawling environments.

Load times, already improved on the standard PS5 version, remain fast, while the overall image clarity provided by PSSR represents a noticeable step up from the base PS5 output. The result is one of the more visually impressive console experiences currently available.

Cyberpunk 2077 has come a long way since its troubled 2020 launch. The PS5 Pro patch is the latest milestone in CD Projekt Red's ongoing effort to rehabilitate and expand the game, and for owners of Sony's premium console, it makes a compelling case for revisiting Night City all over again.
