Google cited the game's portrayal of sensitive themes as the reason for the removal, stating that the content did not meet the standards outlined in its developer policies. The move has sparked significant debate among fans and gaming communities who argue the game handles such topics with care and intent.

Doki Doki Literature Club has always carried prominent content warnings, and its free-to-play model made it widely accessible on mobile platforms. The removal means Android users can no longer download the title directly through official channels.
